1) Hand compression over the painful site :
While it is a normal habit of most of us to compress the side of the face where the tooth is painful. Well stop …. doing this as this is causing harm by producing heat which further increases your pain by increasing the inflammation.
On the other hand, cold compress or an ice pack can help ease dental pain, especially if a toothache is due to injury or swollen gums.
2) Self Medication:
Many still don’t take dental pain seriously. During toothache specially in our country visiting medical shops without any prescription and taking drugs given by pharmacist is a common practice. ANTIBIOTICS are taken for longer period of time which result in antibiotic resistance.
In order to relieve the dental pain completely in 80% of cases intervention in the form of some procedure is required from the dentist
3) Eating from unaffected side:
Chewing from both the sides of the mouth is mandatory to maintain normal functioning and hygiene of the oral cavity. Actually when we are chewing food we are not only using that area of the mouth but food is also helping to self cleanse the teeth and gums of that area.
Failure to not chew from any particular side results in plague deposits in that area and causes gum diseases.
4) Not visiting dental clinic for treatment::
Until and unless severe pain is there or pain which is coming in between day to day activity many patient hesitate to visit dental clinic. The reasons are many :
• Fear of pain from treatment
• Busy schedule
• Treatment charges
But believe us THE MORE THE TREATMENT IS NEGLECTED THE MORE IT IS GOING TO BE HEAVY ON POCKETS AND MORE TREATMENT TIME IT IS GOING TO TAKE.
So it is important to address your dental visit every 6 months to inspect any dental lesion or caries at the earliest to prevent any possibility of toothache.
